It has been proven that being at one with the great outdoors can provide a natural boost to your wellbeing. The natural elements make us feel calm, rejuvenated and close to nature.

There are many ways in which you can bring the outdoors into your home to make for a calming interior environment, but floor to ceiling windows that look out onto a huge green space isn’t something that’s available to everyone, whereas bringing plants inside is, but that’s not the only way to do it. I have compiled a list of 5 tips to help you bring the outdoors in.

Bring in Natural materials. Furnishings created with natural materials such as Wicker, Rattan and Hemp compliment the home and have a natural look. Use baskets for storage, earth toned rugs, and other decorative items with natural tones and hues will bring the outdoors to your living area.

Wooden flooring. A wooden floor is warm, comfortable, adaptable and easy to accessorise with rugs. The organic elements of natural flooring, not only looks good and will fit with any colour scheme, but feels great to walk on too.

Increase natural light. It may not be possible to increase natural light in your home by removing walls and enlarging windows, so use lighter curtains on your existing windows, brighten your colour scheme and add mirrors and reflective surfaces to distribute the light around your home. Natural light gives you a boost and is great for your houseplants too.

Improve your view. Ensure that beyond your windows, your view is clear and clean. Trim unruly plants and bushes or treat yourself to a colourful window box full of seasonal plants and flowers.

Go Eco Friendly. You will feel closer to nature than ever, the more eco friendly you become. Using products and materials that are more beneficial to the planet with make you feel like you are doing your bit for the environment and your immediate environment will benefit too.
